This is a blog I am writing while I’m walking.
That’s right. While I’m walking.
You’ll all be pleased to hear I’m walking in the woods, not near the cliffs.
But why am I telling you this?
Well, I’ve had a block today.
I haven’t been able to write a thing.
Not a line of good content.
Nothing at all.
I’ve tried to pivot my time.
I’ve tried to do admin instead.
Tried to do some image work instead.
But even these were a challenge.
The phrase “like pulling teeth” comes to mind.
In the end, I gave up.
I walked home.
My walk home is nice, it’s through the woods and over a river.
It’s very picturesque.
But while I was walking, listening to the latest book in the Disc World Series the strangest thing happened.
All of those things I couldn’t think about in the office came to mind.
Easily.
Quickly.
Without any fuss or hassle.
They just appeared.
Pop.
Content for Twitter? Sorted.
LinkedIn posts. Planned for the next 3 weeks.
How about blogs? Two written in the space of 10 minutes.
And all done with only one minor stumble.
So why am I telling you this?
Simple.
Sometimes we all need a break.
Sometimes we all get block.
Sometimes a change is as good as a rest.
Sometimes we all just need to step away and get some headspace.
Creativity doesn’t happen on a 9-5 timescale so why should we expect it to?
Take a break.
Go for a walk.
Go be with nature.
Let your mind wander.
The creativity you’ve lost will soon return.
